Underwood, 1899, N°2, USA
The Underwood family produce carbon paper and ribbon - among others for Remington, who sells it under its own name. In 1893, John Underwood is told that his services are no longer required: Remington is going to produce its own accessories. John answers dryly: "Okay, I'll produce my own typewriters then."
He seeks out Franz X. Wagner, a very experienced engineer who already has a number of typewriters to his name. The Underwood comes onto the market in 1895 and become the most successful typewriters ever.
