History
The history of Lamacart – an international leader in paper recovery and recycling – began in 1934 in Villafranca near Verona, founded on an idea of Francesco Nicolis, the progenitor of a family of entrepreneurs, the third generation of which now manages the Group’s companies.
Resourcefulness, the courage to take risks, intuition about the market potential, are all factors that guided Francesco’s decision to undertake an ‘unconventional’ activity by choosing to collect what others throw away: waste paper.
A decision that proved to be a good one and that resulted in a rapid growth of the market and the company, whose industrial heritage was continued by his son, Luciano. It was , in fact, Luciano Nicolis who, in 1963, established Lamacart S.p.A. in its present form, who structured and organised it into a modern context, offering itself to the public and private markets as an efficient, reliable and competent partner in paper recovery and recycling.
In 1991, Thomas Nicolis, the current Managing Director and a dynamic member of the third generation of businessmen, also began working in the company. His task was to guide Lamacart even further towards technological innovation, process rationalisation and – above all – to constantly project itself towards the ‘globalised’ markets that have taken Lamacart to international dimensions and have allowed it to operate competitively all over the world.

A strategic partner
In parallel with its international activities, the company has also developed solid partnerships with public and private Italian Associations and Institutions (for example, Comieco), thus becoming a strategic partner in collection and recovery throughout the national territory, including the management of important projects linked to environmental services.
A leader in Italy, the company currently handles an annual volume of recycling material near to one million tons of paper, about 10% of the entire amount of recovered paper managed by all of the sector companies put together.

Avant-garde services
Lamacart is able to provide its public and private Customers with a complete recycling service. In fact, its services include:

The supply of systems and equipment (conveyor belts, baling machines, permanent presses, press containers, containers, semi-trailers), suitable for the collection and emission of material at production companies;
The transportation of material with specific authorised vehicles (trucks with platforms fitted with loading systems, cranes and hydraulic grabs, etc.);
A network of company-owned or leased platforms throughout the country to collect the materials;
Recovery/disposal of materials;
Certified destruction of materials (newspapers and magazines, books, private files, accounting and/or confidential data documents, gadgets, obsolete goods, etc.) by shredding and grinding.
The Company supplies its services to all sectors with particular reference to:
Separate collection of waste / Municipalities
Public Associations
Factories
Large-scale retail trade
The graphic and publishing sector
The paper and binding industry
Credit and insurance institutions
Lamacart’s headquarters – which now employs about one hundred people – is in Villafranca, just a few kilometres from Verona. The main factory is also located here and extends over 130,000 m², fifty thousand square metres of which are covered.
The Company operates with its own authorised vehicles and systems using simplified and ordinary procedures in accordance with the standards set by the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Certifications (the OHSAS 18001 and FSC certifications are now also being obtained).

“Recovery”, a shared passion
Not everybody knows: Lamacart is the mother company of the Nicolis family’s many business endeavours. The family’s passion for recovering things also led to the creation of Museo Nicolis, the Car, Technical and Mechanical Museum in Villafranca with its 7 collections of vintage cars, musical instruments, cameras, typewriters and other items of mankind’s ingenuity.
A contagious passion which lies at the very foundations of the family business – making it into an industrial activity – and the Museum’s, which was created by Luciano Nicolis, the entrepreneur who recently passed away, to accompany his activity as a collector and culture sponsor. The passion for recovery that Luciano Nicolis, his wife, Renate and his children, Silvia and Thomas, all share has led them to see, where others only see “scrap”, true mechanical gems that had the potential to be recovered, restored and brought back to their original splendour. In this way, and especially in the vintage car sector, a historical and cultural patrimony that otherwise might have been lost forever, has been returned to Italy.

The first Italian Company to receive the Papyrus Award
The passion for recovery is linked to the fame and prestige of Museo Nicolis and, as far as Lamacart is concerned, is the reason behind being awarded such prestigious recognition as the Papyrus Award 2012, which the company recently received from the BIR – Bureau of International Recycling, an international association founded in 1948 that groups together all the most important companies operating in the recovery and recycling of iron and non-iron metals, paper, fabric, plastic materials and rubber.
Lamacart is the first and only Italian Company to obtain this Award, proof of Italy’s excellence in the advanced industrial sector, a sector that is extremely competitive and becoming increasingly more globalised.
