Gerhard Berger (Wörgl, 27 August 1959) is a Austrian entrepreneur and former racing driver, who raced in Formula 1 and won 10 Grand Prix.


Gerhard debuted in Gran Prix with ATS motorizzata BMW turbo at the end of 1984. In Monza he reached the sixth place but he didn't obtain the point in the classification because at the beginning of the season the team had declared to arrange only Wilkenhock.


The following year Berger moved to Arrows, but he didn't obtain relevant results till Sud Africa and Australia Grand Prix, where he obtain 3 points in total.


The histrionic Austrian driver Gerhard Berger is remembered by Ferrari fans for his two victories: in 1988 (Italian Grand Prix) and in 1989 (Portuguese Grand Prix). Those who knew him personally, especially his team-mates and fellow drivers, fondly remember the jokes he would play on the great champion Ayrton Senna, who would quickly get him back.

  • This MOMO steering wheel in our possession was fitted on the Ferrari 640 F1 (F1-89), which won the Portuguese Grand Prix back in 1989.

  • This second MOMO steering wheel in our possession was fitted on the Ferrari 412 T1B, which took him to victory at the 1994 German Grand Prix.

  • In 1995, his last year with Ferrari, he managed to climb onto the podium six times (3rd place finishes), at the Grands Prix of Brazil, Argentina, San Marino, Spain, Monaco, Germany and the Netherlands. This Momo steering wheel in our collection is proof of those achievements and was fitted on the Ferrari 412 T2.

  • This PERSONAL Steering Wheel in the Nicolis Museum collection was once used by the Austrian driver, Gerhard Berger, in 1996 at the helm of a Benetton B196 while driving for that team, which gave him two podium finishes: he crossed the finish line in third place at the San Marino Grand Prix and grabbed the runner-up spot in the Spanish Grand Prix. Those who knew him, especially his team-mates and fellow drivers, fondly remember the jokes he would play on the great champion Ayrton Senna, who would quickly get him back.

  • 1997 marked the final season in Formula 1 for the histrionic Austrian driver, Gerhard Berger. Nevertheless, during the F1 World Championship that year he fought with the determination of a lion, despite pulling out of three Grands Prix (Canada, France and Great Britain) due to health reasons and the loss of his father. This did not prevent him from reaching the podium twice: a second place at the Brazilian Grand Prix topped by a victory at the German Grand Prix. This PERSONAL steering wheel in the Nicolis Museum collection is an enduring reminder of that eventful season.
