Érik Gilbert Comas (Romans-sur-Isère, 28 September 1963) is a French former racing driver of Formula 1.

After winning a Formula 3000 Championship in 1990, he moved to Formula 1: he was hired by Ligier, where he stayed for a couple of years, obtaining the 5th place as best result in French Grand Prix in 1992. Then he moved to Larrousse, running for it from 1993 to 1994 obtaining points in other 3 Grand Prix.

He became famous for an episoide in the last year of his career, in 1994. During Imola Grand Prix the champion Ayrton Senna had a terrible accident and died. Unfortunately  The French racing driver stopped at the pits and he wasn't told about this. So he almost turned up at the emergency vehicles that were try to save the brasilian racing driver. Traumatised from the scene of the accident - he saw Senna died in the car - he decided to leave forever Formula 1. 

Steering Wheels:

  • French driver Erik Comas, to whom this PERSONAL steering wheel belongs, had a very short career in Formula 1, which he left in 1994. The 1992 Formula 1 World Championship was a bit hard to digest for the French star, who had to settle for 5th place at the French Grand Prix as his best finish. The following year the driver left team Ligier and moved to Larrousse, with which he raced the last two years of his career.

  • In 1993 he was hired by the French team Larrousse, with which he competed holding this PERSONAL steering wheel in the Formula 1 World Championship , where is best placing was a 6th place at the Italian Grand Prix.

  • This PERSONAL steering wheel was the one that the French driver was holding during the Imola Grand Prix, where Ayrton Senna died in an accident.
