Fiat "1200 Trasformabile", 1958

The new 1100/103 sedan, introduced to the market in 1953, represents the modern turning point in FIAT production. A commercially successful car, it was joined in 1955 by this "TV Trasformabile" version, designed by Fabio Luigi Rapi, inside the factory. Equipped with the TV version's 50 hp engine, it was embellished with multiple chrome details, a synonym of prestige at the time, as were the wheels with specific multi-spoke cups. The particular decoration on the bonnet, a "V" that incorporated the Fiat logo, and also the Panorama windscreen with curved glass, again with a chrome frame, were clearly inspired by America. Among the most refined details were the direction indicators, encapsulated in the front bumper bezels. The too modern line of the Trasformabile was an obstacle to its commercial diffusion, until, in 1958, the car was equipped with the new, higher-performance engine. Production ended in 1966, but not before having produced 43,000 units. A detail that demonstrates the care taken in the set-up is the ability for the seats to rotate to facilitate access to the car.
