“Starting this year, the Museum is organizing ad hoc activities for children with initiatives dedicated to families, so that children can interact directly with the exhibits,” explains Silvia Nicolis, “even in an immersive way with activities such as treasure hunts among the collections. There will be a special focus on the collection of bicycles; in fact, the Museo Nicolis houses a unique and compelling collection of vintage bicycles: with historic bicycles of “everyday pedaling,” up to those of legendary champions.
THE APRIL 20 BIKE RIDE. The business network ‘Verona Garda Bike’ will organize a bike activity on the bike route “Celeste del Garda Bike Tour” to discover the territory of the province of Verona in cooperation and with the support of REMOOVE. The promotional cycling activity for families with children, scheduled for Saturday, April 20, will be by invitation only and will take place in the province of Verona, between the municipalities of Villafranca di Verona, Peschiera del Garda and Castelnuovo del Garda.
APRIL 20 PROGRAM: MUSEO NICOLIS, ACTIVE HOTEL PARADISO GOLF & BIKE IN PESCHIERA AND GARDALAND. Participants will visit some companies in the “Verona Garda Bike” network. They will start in the morning at the “Museo Nicolis dell’Auto, della Tecnica, della Meccanica“, not a traditional museum but, rather, a spectacular and very modern container of culture and ideas. With a visit to this museum, participants will be able to admire hundreds of famous cars, motorcycles and bicycles, and thus learn about the evolution of means of transportation over the past two centuries. “Starting this year, the museum is organizing ad hoc activities for children with initiatives dedicated to families, so that children can interact directly with the exhibits,” explains Silvia Nicolis, “even in an immersive way with activities such as treasure hunts among the collections. There will be a special focus on the collection of bicycles; in fact, the Nicolis Museum houses a unique and compelling collection of vintage bicycles: with historic bicycles of “everyday pedaling,” up to those of legendary champions.
Early ancestors of the bicycle will be seen, such as the “Draisine” (made of wood equipped with wheels and steering but without pedals) or the first vehicle on wheels with pedals, such as the Michaudine of 1856 (with an iron frame and iron-rimmed wooden wheels), up to the first bicycle models with rubberized wheels (thanks to the discovery of vulcanization, which allowed the application of rubberized wheels on metal rims and pad brakes bringing significant improvements for the solidity and safety of vehicles of the time).
From the earliest models equipped with a large front wheel and fixed pedals, we will see how the velocipede evolved quickly into a myriad of variables with applications of all kinds: lever drive, chain drive, with a gimbal; the comfort of the seat will also be the subject of analysis (since it was particularly cared for over time) and we will see various models of bicycles with the changes implemented by the inventors of saddles and saddles.
A visit to the Museo Nicolis collection will provide a better understanding of how since then, the evolution of the bicycle has been unstoppable and how this romantic and sporty means of transportation has won fans around the world.
